What software do you need to manage your first UK holiday let?

Start with the jobs you need to complete, rather than a list of subscriptions. For one property on one booking channel, the channel's own calendar and messaging, a spreadsheet, and a clear cleaning handover can be a workable starting point. Manual working still needs a named person checking bookings, changes and outstanding tasks.
Essential functions are a reliable availability record, booking and payment records, guest communication, cleaning coordination and a way to record costs and maintenance. They do not all need separate software. Keep guest information to what is necessary, control access and have a recovery plan if a device is lost. Do not put access codes in a widely shared spreadsheet.
Optional tools include a channel manager for multiple booking channels, a property-management system for combined workflows, dynamic pricing, task management and a direct-booking website. Each adds a cost, learning time and another dependency. A pricing tool is not a substitute for understanding your minimum viable rate; an automated message is not proof that the guest received or understood it.
Write down your current weekly tasks and the mistakes you want to prevent. Trial a tool against that list using non-sensitive sample data. Check supported connections, export options, support and cancellation terms before committing. Review the setup when you add channels or properties, rather than buying for an imagined future portfolio.
